I'm Thomas, founder of About Travel. My background in travel did not begin behind a desk. As a chef, I spent years aboard luxury yachts and private vessels, travelling extensively through Africa and around the world. Those years gave me a working understanding of what truly makes a journey unforgettable: food, timing, comfort, the quality of the people around you and the small details that guests remember long afterwards.
Back in South Africa, my wife and I built and continue to run one of the country's most consistently busy guest houses. Welcoming travellers from every corner of the world — hearing what they loved, what surprised them, what they wished they had known — taught me more about Southern Africa as a travel destination than any guidebook could.
I now bring that background in hospitality, logistics and lived experience to designing personalised journeys across Southern Africa. Whether it is a private safari, a wine farm, a coastal road trip, a food-focused escape or a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, I love matching people with places that feel right for them.

Yes. Safari planning is a core part of what we do. We help you choose the right destination, park and lodge for the kind of experience you are looking for — from first-time family safaris to remote private concessions.
Yes. Itinerary planning, accommodation recommendations and, where applicable, bookings can all be arranged through About Travel.
Absolutely. Special occasion travel is something Thomas plans with particular care. From the accommodation to the table to the timing of experiences, the details matter enormously — and we know it.
Yes. Family trips are designed around the ages, energy and interests of your family — not a generic family package. Safari, coast, culture and pace are all factored in.
Yes. Share your arrival and departure details and we will design around them. We are used to working with fixed anchors and can optimise the journey in between.
For peak season travel — December, January and Easter — we recommend starting 6 to 12 months in advance, particularly if you want access to specific lodges. For other periods, 3 to 6 months is usually comfortable. That said, get in touch regardless of timing and we will tell you what is possible.
